Whatever you do, don't go to this location. This is going to be a long review if you want to know why, grab some popcorn.

The journey started with a couple other stores. The first across the street from my house. My battery died on my 2018 X1, so I figured if they could replace it that would save me the hassle of the tow. I call their number, guy tells me they can service my car, quotes me for battery.

I do most of my Maintenance on my car on my own so I am pretty familiar with the parts, I ask him to confirm they have the battery in stock and what type it was, he says 49v (with 48 and 94 being the only two answers for my car model and 48 being the wrong answer I am now confused) and it is available. I think well I am going to walk over and ask them to what they have available since whoever answered clearly doesn't know what they are talking about. I speak to the only person there, he tells me the reps on the phone are corporate call center, he doesn't have the battery and it might not be something they could do if it's in the trunk. I let him know my battery is not in the trunk and ask him to check in his stock what they have available.

He comes back with a we have it. I say have what? can you please tell me the details of which battery you have? Knowing very well I am looking for an AGM 94 80ah And that's what I needed him to confirm.

He goes oh let me go look, comes back and says he has a 70ah battery. Disappointed I ask if he can see which shops have the battery I am looking for (after letting him go on about how the one they have is the right one and he knows best) he says no he can't. I go call the call center again this time asking if the location on base has the battery, she put me on hold and called this location she confirmed the battery size, availability and price. I look at the map and I see a much closer option on university ave, I call again this time I get some rude guy, we go through the same process and he calls that shop, they say yes they have it, but they won't know if they can work on it because of accessibility.

I let him know I am aware they can't replace batteries located in the trunk, mine is under the hood so no problem there he gets very snappy and tells me they can't let me know until they look at it. I reiterated my question was about the availability of the correct size battery he says yup and hangs up. I drive over now after needing to get the car jump started, get there and the dude tells me the same story about the location of the battery, I kindly help him locate it. "oh you're right it's not just the terminal the battery is under it." (This is relevant later on) He starts taking things apart and then calls his manager, comes back and says: "so I am not comfortable doing this because there is more hooked up to it than a positive and a negative " well now I can either come back tomorrow cause his manager is the only one that can do it or "go to a shop, they do those pretty cheap." I go home as all the other locations are closed now.

This morning I head to the one on base. After all that, surely the people on base were vetted better and more trustworthy I think to myself (no they weren't). I pull into the bay, the kid comes up and tells me the same thing again about the battery location. I am so over this, I get out my car and take the housing off and show him where it is.

I notice while doing so that the covers were sitting very loose. This was later confirmed when the other kid came out to work on the car and yelled this is all loose at his friend. I am assuming the previous location didnt tighten it after deciding they didn't know how to move forward. They are both looking frantic so I asked him if they were gonna be able to get the battery replaced and he says we are trying to figure out what to take out so we can get to the battery.

This should have been my sign to leave, being so over the saga I just wanted to be over with. I get out my car again and go show him what needs to come off and in what order. I ask him if they need any more help and he goes "nah" I sit in my car nervously watching this kid bang power tools into bolts. car is half taken apart, other kid comes back and "confirms" the battery size I told him my car takes is what's on the sticker.

I ask if they have it he says yes, scans a code and the screen shows $369+tax. I stopped him and said that's not the price I have been told multiple times on the phone and in person yesterday. He says I don't know why they told you a different price you can call the number to see what you can do about that. I get on the website and chat with a rep while they continue to bang and clunk things around violently shaking the car (not really sure what they were doing but definitely getting the car checked tomorrow by the dealership for damage).

In the chat I get confirmation the price for the only battery my car takes is $259.99.So an hour later at this point my 10 minutes quick battery changed was completed and I had just received that confirmation through the chat I was overcharged (mind you I had to call off from work because I didnt think this was gonna take an hour but It did). I call the corporate call center back and ask for an explanation. She takes down the details and asks if she can put me on hold to find out, I graciously agree. After 15 minutes of being on hold, the line reconnects to giggling then this is the manager at the Callagan location how can I help you?

I let her know I wasnt aware I was being transferred and that was rude and tell her again why I was calling. Her response is I didnt know what I was talking about and the price I paid was what it cost. I let her know again, no it wasnt, tell her about the chat and the other store where I saw on their screen how much my battery was gonna be she is just being rude and keeps saying she doesnt know why but thats how much it is. I tell her at this point.

The reason behind the price discrepancy is why I called so why would I be transferred to her if she didnt have answers. She switches the tune to there are two battery types and I was quoted for the other one. My car cant fit the 48 battery I respond. She says I was quoted for the wrong one.

I think to myself she didnt know how many times I have had to explain what battery I needed so she wouldnt know that I asked to confirm over and over again. I explain it again. She just repeats the same answer about me not knowing. When I said earlier this will relavant later this is what I meant.

Throughout the whole terrible experience I had been treated like a dumb girl that wouldnt know car stuff. I give it one last chance without letting my frustration build up and tell her I was at the shop and after I guided the kid to find the correct battery in their system I saw the price with my eyes on their system so why would two shops in the same city have two very different prices. She says she will call the other manager and puts me on hold. Comes back with the other manager said that was a different type of battery, I cut her off now being very annoyed with the apparent sexism in her comments and tell her I am well aware I requested an AGM battery every time, I also verified the details seeing how her techs and the techs at the other location both didnt even know where my battery was until I showed them.

She catches an attitude very fast and goes well we didnt push the battery on you. We didnt make you pay for it, you came in and got this done and paid and drove off. Nothing I can do for you. I tell her I did actually say something to your tech and he said I would have to call the number to get that resolved, which is what I did and here I am just listening to her give me the run around.

She goes well there is nothing I can do. The battery you got is that price. I again say why was it only that price at your location? She cant help she can only say I am sorry youre not happy with the service you got.

I tell her I am sorry doesnt make up for $110 price difference and this is bait and switch. She says she would give me half off the next oil change. At this point I am mad. I go $20 bucks will make up for you stealing $100?

On a military base? She goes nope your oil change isnt $20. I let her know my bmw doesnt get serviced with them and thats not something I am interested in. The dealer actually sends mobile mechanics to my home to service my car.

They also quoted me $450 to do the battery change but here I was trying to save some after getting new tires and then in the same week getting my windshield cracked and replaced) she goes good for you, nothing I can offer you I tell her that this conversation is being recorded and she switches to I am gonna check on this and can give you a call back whats your phone number. She calls back 15 minutes later saying the quote I got was for the wrong size battery they quoted me for the 48. At this point I am livid, but I am over arguing. I say I know what battery I requested and I know what I saw on the screen, have a good day and hang up on her.

I get a call back 15 minutes later from an 800 number, some call center person calling me back and has the manager of that location on the line, I go yes? She says my area manager says come back and well take that battery out and put your old one in. This is where I lost it. Its one thing to be this terrible at being a manager and I would know I am a bank manager, but its crazy that she would even think I would let her or her inexperienced employees touch my car again after all of that.

And in what universe is it okay to cause someone to call off work, headache, sit in the car for an hour and a whole other 2 hours on the phone to come back and let you mess up their car and put a dead battery back in. Mind you in the middle of all of this I didnt even realize they never coded my new battery. So the battery will probably die prematurely because they didnt register it. I let her know I was over this, this is the worst experience I have ever had with a company in my entire life and I am tired of their lack of service and decency to which she had the nerve to reply I offered to make it right you just dont want to, you were quoted for the wrong battery..

I just snapped back enough with telling me I am just a dumb woman and I dont know what I am talking about, I sat here and told you parts numbers over and over and over. Say youre crooks, say you bait and switch, say you dont care, just stop telling me this bs that you can easily listen to your recorded conversations from yesterday and hear being confirmed, that I have a chat confirming with one of your reps that you were trying to pull one over people. The other rep jumps in and says they offered me what they can do. I just said you both have the day you deserve and hung up.

Moral of the story?

Dont try to save money and use these crooks instead. They are scam artists I ended up paying $400 to go through all this and not have my battery programmed, vs could have had dealer send someone to my place to replace it for $450.

When getting my vehicle serviced at the Valvoline oil change in Chesterfield Missouri the technician overtalked the oil filter housing when changing out my oil filter and cracked the oil filter housing which resulted in an oil leak onto my engine and transmission. The cap was torqued down too tight and cracked the housing and again resulted in an oil leak. My engine has never leaked any oil until it was serviced by your Valvoline technicians.

Damaged vehicle

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Valvoline - Damaged vehicle

Consider this your warning and avoid this location at all costs. Considering this place advertises and is known for oil changes, you would think that they could do this one job right.

I am not exaggerating when I say they put at least 3 times the oil that my vehicle could take. When they were finished, and After they had charged me I was asked to turn on my car, it shook, blew black smoke and shut off. This isn't even the worst part. After they admitted their mistake, they said they would get my car into a shop the next day and me into a rental.

This was the toughest part, they gave me the runaround and did neither. I took the initiative, got myself a rental and took the car to the shop. Now, months after paying the bill, on damages THEY caused they refuse to reimburse me. They are also refusing to reimburse me for my car rental because it went over seven days.

Again, they admitted THEIR mistake, they even said they do not check the oil level with the dip stick prior to asking me to turn on the vehicle. When they did place the dip stick in, it overflowed. There were piles of rags with oil from them trying to clean the oil out themselves.

I understand mistakes happen, but you also have to make your mistakes right, and they have done nothing to do so, instead I have had to pay out of pocket for THEIR mistakes. Save yourself the trouble and money.

Resolved: No oil on my oil change- seized my engine

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Jun 30, 2024

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. Valvoline agreed to pay for all that I requested eventually but at every point, they insisted to NOT do the right thing. They were courteous but always tried to get away with doing as little as possible!

Original review May 31, 2024
I took my car in to the Dana Point Valvoline for a simple oil change. The visit was usual until they flagged me to leave.

I thought, that was fast. Well Yes, they drained the oil a never put it back. My engine seized still in sight of the shop. They viewed the video and realized they were at fault.

They said they would take care of it but I had to sign an agreement to use their low ball shop. The Lexus dealer asked $9k to replace the engine with one of similar use (used engine). They want to use a shop for $4500. They claim that this is all they are required to do.

This is a Lexus that was pristine and cared for by the dealer. I have a shop that I trust who will do it for $6300 but they wont use my choice. They insist that they use their choice. They would not negotiate even though I gave them a more reasonable choice.

They wont budge. They want to use a smog shop mechanic who does engines part time. Then a shop 90 minutes away, another low ball shop up in Anaheim. I am so not happy.

My perfect car that I was going to retire with may not be worth what it should be worth no longer a reliable vehicle. And a year down the road when it starts burning oil because the engine they put in was sub-standard. Then what!?

Let me make sure that you know that where my car broke down was a busy spot where I am lucky I was not hit. If I had made it to the freeway and the car quit, No brakes, no steering I could have been gravely injured.

Complaint on a Employee

My husband and I was shopping at Autozone. A Puerto Rican looking guy came in to change out a wiper blade, that his customer bought from Autozone.

He was not very nice to the lady behind the counter. He was very rude and verbal towards her. She asked if she could take care of him, I assured her that was okay. She proceeded with him to whom she explained the wipers to him.

He stated that he was going to complain on her and that someone told the customer that she was dumb. The lady behind the counter stated that would never happen, and that its been stated themat they are saying things that aren't true. He again spouted off to her, and she calmly stated that since he didn't get his way on a return at Autozone, he's just very mean, rude, and nasty. Gave him the blade and told him to have a nice day.

We seen nothing that she did was wrong.

It was all on this guy. He was just being a total ***

I will not even consider such a horrible company

Original review Jun 10, 2024
This is a terrible company, and their regional manager, Grallian Harbaugh, is also a terrible person. They ruined the engine in my car.

The manager at the location agreed to provide me with a rental while they fixed my car. They forgot to seal my oil cap, which caused my engine to knock, totaling the engine. I had to pay out of pocket to get the damages repaired and to get a new engine, which put me significantly behind on my bills, and I'm still sorting things out. Here's the kicker: I dealt with this issue from 6/23 to 9/23 last year.

The rental car they provided was from Enterprise, and now, on 6/6/24, I'm receiving an invoice directly from Enterprise, stating that Valvoline refused to pay and the bill falls on me. This is a dreadful company, and I'm tired of hearing about them taking advantage of people because they have deeper pockets.

Do not take your car there, or if something happens, they will leave you with the bill. Signing out, a very annoyed former customer.

They ruined my transmission by dropping a hose in there. They told me I had to get my own rental car and they would reimburse me.

I didn't have the money or the means to do so and now I'm glad I didn't see what they did with you and never reimbursed you. They had my car for 26 days before they were able to get it fixed and during that time I lost my job because of lack of Transportation and missed numerous doctor's appointments and physical therapy appointments as well as family events because of their negligence. I have an attorney that tells me I am most definitely do consequential damages. Right now I'm waiting to see what the Attorney General can work out for me.

But these people are awful. The most unprofessional Corporation I have ever seen

They ruined my Mercedes Benz clk 5.5 AMG

Updated by user Jan 20, 2024

It has been completely ignored so fa,r seriously!!.

Original review Jan 20, 2024
Before letting them change the oil in my AMG Mercedes Benz which is a rare and high performance convertible model, I asked them if they were capable they assured me that they could although I should have pulled out when i had to tell them it required European motor oil and required 9 quarts of such oil. Too bad for me they had already drained they oil.

After they thought they were done they tried to find the engine oil dipstick only for me to school them and tell them that it has no dipstick! So quickly they opened the door and flagged me out off of the pit to make room for the next victim. I couldn't even check my oil level because the car has to be shut down at least 10 minutes On the way home both skid plates fell of and were dragging on the road so i stopped to address this crawling under my car in January thinking if i had to crawl under my car i may have well done it myself! Little did i know that this *** show was just beginning!

So then before starting my car i checked my engine oil and the warning on my dash said, " Reduce Engine Oil Amount!! " So i drove back to the store waited in line AGAIN! When the guy came out to see me he remembered my car and asked if everything was ok, I said HECK NO! told him about my skid plates and that they over filled my engine with oil.

Once my car was back over the pit they supposedly drain some oil out and said they put the skid plates on securely. Again door flew open a man waving for me to exit. i went home and parked my car for the rest of that day January 3rd. until January 5th i was driving to Carrolton, MO a bout 75 miles 1 3/4 hr.

drive in severe sub zero and snow conditions as a friend invited me to come down to do some snowmobile riding. About 10 miles east on 210 hwy my skid plate falls off again!!! I had some monster tape in my trunk and taped it in place the best i could 210 HWY has no shoulders where i was and the snow and ice made the lanes even more narrow! It was so cold my fingers nearly literally froze off, frost biten and angry of the situation i thought about canceling my snowmobiling and turn around and go back to the store.

So i went back they put the skid plates on supposebly and this time it took them literally 90 seconds before the door comes open again man waving me out and on my way. So again i go home and park my Mercedes Benz until January 7th which is a Sunday and my wife and i always drive up north about 30 miles every Sunday to see our children and Grand children. But guess what? Before leaving Raytown MY SKID PLATES FELL OFF AGAIN!!!

So guess what? My wife and i drove back to the store to wait in line again. They spent a lot of time under it this time over an hour. It sounded as if they were hammer drilling on my skid plates, "i hope not" so when finished they came up from the pit, not so quick to open the door and wave me on.

I guess the manager a lady who never addressed her name came to me and stated that she put the skid plates on. This time i got out and removed the plastic engine cover and realized that some how some way they had gotten engine oil everywhere all over my belts, struts and every pulley on the car covered. She was taking pictures with her phone for what i don't know damage was done. She wasn't there on January 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th taking before videos or pictures.

WTF! I went home and thought to myself that i'm not dealing with this store anymore. i called corporate office only to get lied to and pushed away. Everyone even the manager of the store just has been passing the buck.

i guess trying to play games with me. i have not drove the car since just as to show i didn't further the damage. But i can'tD get any cooperation of any kind from Corp. or the store manager.

So im having to make a case in small claims court this Monday. They are costing me so much of my time i hope the judge sees how much damage and time it has costed me and how they have ruined my Mercedes Benz clk AMG 5.5 convertible.

Extremely poor and insulting customer service.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I sent an email to corporate customer service, but I have not gotten a response. I will restate my concerns.

I recently moved to Florissant, Missouri. I went to the VALVOLINE oil change at

1717 N Highway 67 Florissant, Missouri on January 30, 2024 at approximately 9:45am. When I arrived there was one bay available and I was directed into it. The bay next to me was vacated shortly thereafter and the two bays in front were being serviced.

A young man came and asked me what I wanted and I told him an oil change with synthetic gas, he said ok and walked away. Twenty minutes later I was still waiting and no one approached me, and that would have been fine, but a car was directed into the formerly empty bay next to me and she was instructed to open her hood and a young man starting working on her car. I started to smile because I knew I would be leaving and when the young man looked over at me, I told him you know Im going to leave. He responded that the person who has just come in needed a light fixed.

I told him that would have been ok, but because no one had spoken with ne about anything, the optics were really bad. He looked down at the car he was servicing and never looked up again. When I motioned to another gentleman to let me out, he said ok, lifted the door and guided me out and then said, sorry.

I am a 73 year old female who has been driving since I was 17. I also typically buy used cars so I understand the importance of maintaining a vehicle.

In all of my years of going to get serviced, I have had service people try to get me to do more or misdiagnosed an issue, but never have I been ignored. Just so you will know, I ultimately found another oil change facility that was superb.

There is no receipt because a service bill was never completed.

Hey old hag, you were next for an oil change. If the person next to you needed a light, wiper blades etc and didn’t need the labor of the mechanic below doing an oil change, no loss for you.

Talk about optics? They saw an old hag with a scowl enter, then experienced your nasty foul mouth. “I’m gonna leave”. Please do.

Here’s a little secret.

Your demographic is the least sought after, most despised one out there. So go home, feed those 11 cats, clip those coupons and bother your neighbors.

Hidden charges & Manager Unprofessional

Went in for an oil change on my 2006 Chevy Avalanche and was charged for the oil change ( 6 qrts) plus 1 qt of additional oil $9.99. I called and spoke to manager

( Anjela ) after seeing invoice in my email to ask why I was charged for an oil change plus 1 qt of additional oil as my 2006 Chevy Avalanche requires 6 qts of oil ( includes oil for the filter ) and I paid for an oil change which should have been 6 qts total.

She then told me that an oil change only comes with 5 qts of oil for the " SPECIAL PRICE " and then they charged me to fill it up. Ummmm when did an oil change not require the fluids to be refilled to manufacturers specs?

While talking to Anjela she was rude & unprofessional and dismissive to my concerns as I have been a loyal customer at that location prior to Valvoline taking it over and never had an issue with the previous owners telling me before any additional charges ( think full disclosure...not Bait & Switch Shocked ) Anjela-- Manager at State Street location Boise was extremely RUDE & unprofessional and treated me as if my concerns were not valid. It is not necessarily the extra fee that I was charged without being told, but the way I was treated afterwards by Anjela that will ensure that I take my business elsewhere & tell every person I possibly can to do the same I feel deceived by unethical & shady practices & further abused by the so called management staff that lacks training or ability to understand a customer's concerns Cry Invoice # 36976 as photo won't upload
